What exactly have you accomplished since the last progress report. Be detailed.
I spent a good deal of time capturing field effects. I got
some metallic sounds at the park, hitting trashcan lids, benches, basketball
hoop/post, etc. I also got a couple recordings of footsteps on different types
of terrain, cement, grass, gravel. After the team meeting on Monday, I began to
edit some sounds with Chris Treat. After a bit of tinkering, we’d put together
a killer railgun-type sound, and some others that, admittedly, could use some
work. I also spent some time learning and playing with sounds in the Unreal 4
engine (the engine being used for this game) and found the features to be
incredibly robust. They are comparable to MAX / MSP in workflow, and Wwise in
functionality. This is great news, because it gives me one less thing to worry
about, and all of us one less thing to license should we decide to publish this
game.
What do you plan to get done
the next week?
As per my schedule, I’m editing sounds tomorrow and beginning
music on Friday. My focus for editing this week is footsteps and jump/crouch. I
have these sounds captured, but I’m going to put together some “cues” in Unreal
to present the programmer next team meeting. I could also benefit from doing
some tutorials to better understand the software. I will use digital tutor for
this.
What needs to be done yet
before the project is complete?
On my end, sounds for: Guns, explosions, chatter
Also, music.
How well have you kept to your
planned schedule and what can be done to maximize your work time?
I’ve been following the schedule to a T, thus far, and it’s
been going great. I’ll be able to maximize my work time by keeping this up.
Any outstanding difficulties
you encountered?
Nothing unexpected. Learning unfamiliar software is the
biggest hurdle at this point.
